HKIE Aviation Scholarship for Outstanding Engineering Students

Background:
Aims:
To recognize the academic
excellence of full-time undergraduate students enrolled in aviation or
aerospace-related engineering programs.
To
identify students with the potential and passion for leadership in aviation and
aerospace engineering, and to mentor them into becoming future industry
champions.
To
raise the public profile of HKIE, particularly within local universities and
institutions.
To encourage more students to
participate in HKIE activities at an earlier stage of their careers.
Target students:
Full-time
undergraduates in second-year or above who have declared a major in an aviation
or aerospace-related engineering programme in any local university or higher
education institution.
Awards:
The scholarship will be awarded to a maximum
of 4 undergraduate students studying aviation or aerospace-related engineering
programs, HKD 10,000 per scholarship, and the recipients would be invited to
the join the HKIE Aircraft Division’s Annual Dinner, where the Scholarships
would be presented in an official ceremony.
Eligibility:
Candidate should:
Be a student studying any Higher Diploma or Degree of Aviation or Aerospace-related engineering
programme in a local higher education institution. However, each student is
eligible for the Scholarship only once in his/her lifetime;
Have outstanding academic
results;
Be a Student Member of the HKIE or in the process of application for student
membership;
Have strong leadership ability
demonstrated in his/her extra-curricular activities and community service;
Be recommended by the Head of
Engineering Department of the higher education institution.
Application Procedures
The higher education institutions
offering aviation or aerospace-related engineering Higher Diploma or Degree are
welcomed to make nominations for the Scholarship.
Nominations
should only be made by the Head of Engineering Department of the higher
education institution. Each higher education institution can nominate a maximum
of 3 candidates.
Nominations
must be submitted together with
A
statement of recommendation by the Head of Engineering Department who is in
support of the nomination;
Copy/ies
of the candidate’s academic results at the higher education institution; and
Evidence
of participation in extra-curricular activities and community services.
Selection Procedures
Academic results at the higher
education institution;
Participation in extra-curricular
activities/community services;
Enthusiasm in pursuing a career
in aviation engineering profession; and
Performance at the interview.
Candidates
will be short-listed and invited for an interview in Dec 2019. Candidates not
invited for interview by Jan 2020 shall consider that their application not
successful.
The HKIE AC Division reserves the
right to reject or disqualify any application. The decision of the HKIE AC
Division Judging Panel will be final. In the event of their being unable to
find candidates of sufficient merit, they may withhold all or any of the awards
at their absolute discretion.
Announcement of the Results
The higher education institutions and the
individual awardees will be notified of the results in Mar 2020.
Presentation of Awards
A certificate and a cash prize of HK$10,000
will be awarded to each successful candidate at the AC Division’s Annual Dinner
The Engineering Department of the higher
education institution shall also announce names and relevant information of
their students who are awarded the HKIE Aviation Scholarship for Outstanding
Engineering Student on their website for public access, including photos taken
at the award presentation ceremony.
